Studies in low energy nuclear physics at HIGS 16O

Summary

The deposit contains data obtained during experiments at the HIGS facility at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL), Duke University, in collaboration with the University of Connecticut (Uconn). The experimental work was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The data for these experiments were obtained from 2009 to 2011 and exact details of when each data file was generated can be found in the attached experiment runbooks. Data and analysis codes needed to analyse the data are contained within the archive. M. Gai (Uconn) and M.W. Ahmed (TUNL), each served as the spokesperson of the UConn-TUNL collaboration that collected and released the data. The released data were subsequently analysed at Sheffield Hallam University by R. Smith with the help of S.R. Stern and D.K. Schweitzer at UConn.

Additional details Additional details Types of data: Dataset, Event, Image Collection period: From To 16 April 2009 12 November 2010 Geographic coverage: High Intensity Gamma-ray Source (HIGS) at Duke University, North Carolina, USA Data collection method: The data were collected by an optical time projection chamber (detailed in: https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-0221/5/12/P12004). Calibration data are included, where a radioactive alpha-particle emitter was placed inside the chamber. The remainder of the data were collected with beam from the HIGS facility entering the detector to induce nuclear reactions. Typical data files with gamma-beam were acquired over hour-long periods. Data processing and preparation activities: During the experiment, the raw digitised data were converted into root format for ease of data analysis. Raw image files of the TPC tracks are also included. Statement on legal, ethical and access issues: N/A Additional information: Digitizer and image files are included for beam data and calibration data. Additionally, flux data are also included, which were utilised to measure the intensity of the high energy photon beam. Example analysis codes are provided for analysis of beam, calibration and flux data, and files used within the analysis, such as the theoretical lineshapes of particles moving through the TPC detector are also included. All data and meta-data required to validate any published research outcomes, and to re-perform a separate analysis, are included within this submission.
