Reading Post-Postmodernist Fictions of the Digital project: reader review study

Summary

These datasets were collected in May 2024 as part of the "Reading Post-Postmodernist Fictions of the Digital" project. They comprise reader reviews taken from the website Goodreads.com. The following were collected: - 100 reviews of A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan (2011), filtered by the keyword 'Powerpoint', 'English language, 'newest first'. - 100 reviews of Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple (2012), filtered by the keyword 'Email', 'English language, 'newest first'. - 100 reviews of Conversations with Friends By Sally Rooney (2017), filtered by the keyword 'Email', 'English language, 'newest first'. - 99 reviews of Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson (2021), filtered by the keyword 'playlist', 'English language, 'newest first'. There are only 99 reviews as opposed to 100 because, at the time of data collection, only 99 reviews met the collection criteria as outlined here. - 100 reviews of Night Film by Marisha Pessl (2013), filtered by the keyword 'app', 'English language', and published on the website between 21.8.2013-8.12.2020. This time period was set because it represents the period of time in which the accompanying Night Film decoder app was available and functioning. It thus allowed us to collect data from readers who had used the app alongside the novel. The reviews have been anonymized via the use of pseudonyms. Any potentially identifying/sensitive data has been redacted.
